Harpes Trilobite

Product description

This is an outstanding specimen of the trilobite, Harpes perriradiatus, of the order Harpida, discovered in Hamar Laghad, Morocco.

It dates from the Devonian Period, 360 million years old.

The trilobite is beautifully presented, in a very striking pose, above the matrix.

It clearly displays the wide, pitted brim around the cephalon, with eyes centrally placed, high up on the cephalon.

The thorax is bent over on the reverse side of the matrix.

Trilobites ("three-lobes") are extinct arthropods that form the class Trilobita. They appeared in the Middle Cambrian epoch and flourished throughout the lower Paleozoic era before beginning a drawn-out decline to extinction when, during the Late Devonian extinction, all trilobite orders, with the sole exception of Proetida, died out.
The last of the trilobites disappeared in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian about 250 million years ago.

This will make a great addition to a collection, and is extremely unusual, due to the "pose" of the trilobite.

One of the more unusual and sought after Moroccan trilobites.
